Zoo-phonics is a part of daily life at YIK.
Zoo-phonics is a phonics-based language arts
programme that was developed in California
and is now used in over 6,000 kindergartens
and elementary schools worldwide.
The entire programme is based on learning and combining 26 animal characters, representing the letters of the English alphabet, with the goal to form words.
Each animal has a name, a body signal and a sound,
which makes learning and memorizing them easier and more natural for children.

Zoo-phonics begins in Pre-school with soft toys, songs and games and continues right through kindergarten and onto the Owl Academy. The correct sounds and fundamentals of English Language are taught in a systematic, step-by-step way that has become the cornerstone of English language learning at YIK. Zoo-phonics has proven to be highly effective and the children love it! Original stories and songs add to the fun of learning to speak, spell and, eventually, to read and write in English.

毎日、Zoo-phonicsプログラムによる英語教育を行います。Zoo-phonicsは、アメリカのカリフォルニア州で開発され、全米で6,000以上の幼稚園・小学校で使用されている英語教育プログラムです。
フォニックスを主体に、段階的に英語基礎力を開発していくプログラムで、ネイティブの子どもたちだけでなく、第二外国語として英語を学習する子どもたちにも大きな効果が認められています。
その効果の理由は、子どもたちがフォニックスの基本であるアルファベット26文字の音と形を、より楽しくやさしく習得できるように工夫された“26匹の動物”と“ボディ・シグナル”にあります。また、それぞれの動物キャラクター にまつわるかわいいお話や、オリジナル・ソングもたくさんそろっています。
Zoo-phonics学習を発達段階に沿って続けることで、どの子も複雑なフォニックス(つづり字と音素の関係)のパターンを楽しく覚えられ、やがて自分で本を読み、自分の力でボキャブラリーをふやします。
広島では、YMCA International Kindergarten：YIKが初めてZoo-phonicsを導入しました。英語の会話力に加え、正しい発音と読み書きの能力を早期に習得していきます。
