The YMCA was established on June 6th, 1844,
in London, England, by the young Londoner, George Williams.
During the industrial revolution of his time,
George prayed for the betterment of future generations’ life.
Originally, he and his colleagues only wanted to expand
the YMCA across the rest of Europe but today,
the YMCA is established in 120 countries, with over 65 million members worldwide.
The first Japanese YMCA opened in Tokyo, in 1880.

YMCA（Young Men's Christian Association）は1844年6月6日、
ロンドンの青年ジョージ・ウイリアムズとその仲間によって創設された。
産業革命が進む中、同世代の仲間たちの人格の成長と
生活の改善を願って祈りをともにしたことが始まりである。
その彼らの願いはヨーロッパ中に広がり、後にYMCAと名づけられる。
今日では120の国と地域で、およそ6500万人の会員がかかわっている。
1880年、日本で最初のYMCAとして、東京にYMCAが創設される。

YMCAの語学教育と国際幼児園のあゆみ

1890年 「向学心に燃える青年たちに、新しい世界に向かう言葉を学ぶ機会を与えていこう」
という願いから、英語学校開校。
1938年 広島YMCA創設。
1946年 広島YMCA語学学校開校。
1978年 YMCA英語幼児園開園。
2003年 YMCA国際幼児園開園。
2023年 YMCA国際幼児園は20周年を迎えました。

The history of the YMCA School of Languages and
the International Kindergarten

1890 : The first English Language School was opened with the purpose of giving
young Japanese people the chance to learn a language that would,
one day, help open up the world to them.
1938 : The Hiroshima YMCA was established
1946 : The Hiroshima YMCA Language School opened
1978 : The Hiroshima YMCA English Kindergarten opened
2003 : The YMCA International Kindergarten opened
2023 : YIK celebrated its 20th Anniversary.

WE, the Hiroshima YMCA, shall endeavor to live a fulfilling life based
on love and service manifested in Jesus Christ, AND,
we shall work toward guiding youth and fostering their dreams,
hopes and their spirit to live as they encounter people and nature
as well as different cultures, societies and values.

豊かに生きることをめざします。
そして、多くの青少年が、人や自然と出会い、
異なった文化、多様な社会や価値観と出会うなかで、
夢や希望、生きる力を培うことを願います。
